dUMPLING YOUR BANK IS A DUMPLING REVIEW SITE.

activists

Yeh we are environmentalists! We do cool things like stop the destruction of the Great Barrier Reef. (See Dump Your Bank). #KEEPITINTHEGROUND

why dumplings

Dumplings are cheap and tasty and tbh I have never met anyone who doesn't like dumplings. The real debate is whether steamed or fried are better.

dump your bank

This was an AYCC campaign! We got people to dump their banks, and move to a bank that doesn't invest in Fossil Fuels. Tbh it just worked well for a name.

DUMPLING LOVERS

After our AYCC meetings every Monday we are feeling hungry, and so the tradition of going out to dumplings was born. However, this is not just a habit of the Canberra group, many other branches of AYCC enjoy some good dumplings too.

REVIEWS OF DUMPLING HOUSES IN THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

Shanghai Dumpling Cafe

"They're pretty great though" - Austin Bird, Dumpling Enthusiast  ★★★★

Shanghai Dumplings, the OG AYCC Canberra dumpling fav, praised for convenience of location and copious amounts of dumps per serve. Nestled under UniLodge, this is the go to dumpling location for ANU students, and with a cheap price for a plate of 15 dumps ($12.50/$13.50) it makes sense why this place is so busy. The dumpling (generally) have a delicious garlicky flavour, and are filled with great vegan goodness. The conversation often revolves around the argument over which option is better, steamed or fried, however steamed are clearly superior as they are served first and don't burn the inside of your mouth.

What to try:
NEW (!) SILK MILK TEA
Steamed/Fried Vegetarian Dumplings $12.50/$13.50

CBD Dumpling House

"Too much cabbage" - Violet Cully, Steamed Dumpling Activist ★★½
"Vegi and beef weren't that great but the pork and chicken were very nice" - Luke Catania, Dumpling Hack ★★★½

We journeyed to CBD Dumplings one night after our planning meeting, hungry for some tasty af dumps. These dumplings provided a full and happy stomach after you had eaten, however they tbh weren't that great though. The fried were too crunchy and there weren't even any steamed dumps!!!! Out m8s who ordered boiled said they tasted kinda festy and had too much coriander. What's up w that?!?! Both the fried and steamed dumps were lacking some kind of flavour, however there was the option of chilli sauce, which is always nice to add. The interior was nice, and the dumps were cheap, so if you cbf walking to somewhere better, it will do.

What to try:
Fried Vegetable Dumplings $10.80
Pork/Chicken Dumplings $10.80

Yat Bun Tong Dumpling House

Located on Lonsdale street in Braddon, this dumpling house is clearly the more trendy option. With fancy covered menus and a nicely decorated interior, this place seems expensive. However, they charge about the same as Shanghai Dumplings, so we happily visited one evening after a meeting. Yat Bun Tong provides an in house toilet (!) and offers chewy lollies as you exit (they even have potential name round questions on them). The dumplings come in three varieties; steamed, fried and boiled, so we ordered a plate of each to put them to the test. Our general consensus was that their fried vegetarian dumplings reigned supreme.

What to try:
Fried Vegetable Dumplings $12.80

Akiba

"They don't have a menu stuck to the door so it's clearly too expensive"- MaryClare Woodfore, Expensive Dumpling Sceptic

(we are yet to test this one out)

Dumpling Inn Jamison

"Wtf my night is RUINED they have no vegetable dumps" - Laura Young, Vegan Dumpling Expert  0 stars

Hidden in Jamison behind the shopping centre is the Dumpling Inn. For a place named DUMPLING Inn, you would think they would have more than one filling of dumpling on their menu. We sat down and looked at the menu, finding only "steamed dumpling" or "fried dumpling" on their pages.
"What are the fillings?" we innocently asked.
"Pork." was the answer we received.
We left immediately.
